Chicago Dance Academy

Open/Rec Division

This division is suitable for busy pre-teen and teens who want to incorporate dance into their busy lives. Only one class is required per week. Ages are an approximation.

Open and Rec Division classes for adults and older children in hip-hop, dance fusion, and more.

Pre Teen Ballet

AGES 8-11 years

This class class is perfect for students with limited time for extracurricular activities. This class meets once a week. (Please note that this level does not track into pointe work and Studio Company participation.)

Class length: 1hr 15min
Dress requirements:
There is no formal dress code for this level; but dancers are expected to wear tights, leotard and canvas split sole technique shoes. Skirts are optional.

Teen Ballet

AGES 12-15 years

This once-a-week class class is perfect for students with limited time for extracurricular activities. This class does not track to pointe or Studio Company, but dancers are involved in the yearly performance. These students may also take Contemporary.

There is no formal dress code for this level; but dancers are expected to wear tights, leotard and canvas split sole technique shoes. Skirts are optional.

Contemporary

This style is rooted in classical ballet technique, but elements of jazz, neoclassical and modern are incorporated into the movements. Contemporary works are now found in all major dance companies. This class is part of the Ballet III and up curriculum. Teen ballet students may also enroll in this class. Please note that this class will not meet for the entire summer session. Please check the schedule for dates.

Class length: 1 hour
Dress requirements:
Class leotard and and convertible tights rolled up over the feet. Socks are optional if the dancer is "sticking" to the floor in turns.
