Chicago Dance Academy

Primary Division

Children are introduced to basic movement, coordination, rhythm, discipline and the joy of dance. Ballet is the focus and foundation. One class is required per week in this division. Ages are an approximation: levels are at the discretion of the staff.

Students learn the basics of movement, coordination, rhythm, and the joy of dance in this division at the Academy.

Mommy & Me

AGES 15 months-j2 1/2 years

The little ones get to dance with Mom or Dad (nannies and caregivers welcome too) in this low stress, fun class. It is a perfect introduction to dance, movement and music. Open enrollment is allowed throughout the semester. We suggest that the child transitions to First Steps by age 2 1/2 years.

First Steps

AGES 2-early 3 years

This class bridges the gap between Mommy and Me and Creative Movement. It is designed for the 2 to early 3 year olds. The class is 1/2 hour long and a parent is not with the child. Open enrollment is allowed throughout the semester.

Creative Movement

AGES 3-4 (must be at least 3 years of age by the beginning of the semester)

In this fun and imaginative class, children will be introduced to basic motor skills, music and group participation.

Dress requirements:
The attire for the girls is included in the registration fee, with the exception of the shoes. Please purchase canvas split sole ballet slippers - Sansha 15C. Hair should be neatly pulled off the face, with long hair being secured in a ballet bun.
Boys – White fitted t-shirt; black shorts; white socks; and black canvas split sole shoes.

Pre-Ballet

AGES 4-5 years (must be 4 years of age by the beginning of the semester)

The underlying focus is on developing posture, poise, coordination, etiquette, rhythm and, most of all, love of dance.

Fundamentals

AGES 5-6 (must be 5 years of age by the beginning of the semester)

Basic ballet training is introduced—simple steps and vocabulary are learned. The class is more structured, and the art and joy of dance is emphasized.

Rocket Boys

AGES 5-12 years

These boys get to jump, turn, kick and move. They will gain coordination, flexibility and power that will ready them for both sports and dance. This class is offered on a semester basis.

Ballet I

AGES 6, 7 and early 8

A more formal approach to training begins at this level. There is more work at the barre, and center combinations emphasize poise, strength, coordination and the learning of patterns.

Ballet IA

AGES 6 and 7

Ballet I is split into two levels on Saturdays to accommodate new students joining this level; returning students participate in Ballet IB.
